I was lucky enough to get a job shadow with Patrick Mangarin a Navy CMC (Command Master Chief) on board a Navy ship named the USS SCOUT. The USS SCOUT is a MCM (Mine Countermeasures) or better known as a Mine Sweeper. The ship is over 25 years old, it has been deployed all over the world from taking part in Operation Iraqi Freedom to helping out with the relief efforts in Hurricane Katrina. Its a small ship with a crew size of 96 sailors, officers and Chiefs.
On my first day I was able to take a brief tour around the ship and to interact with the sailors, officers and chiefs around the ship. I walked around the ship with Mr. Patrick and visited 2 of the different departments within the ship, there are 4 departments in the the USS SCOUT 2 are major and 2 are minor departments. The 2 major departments are Operations and engineers while the 2 minor departments are supply and the mess (Cooks). The picture on the left is me on the deck of the USS SCOUT over looking the San Diego bay and on the right is CMC Patrick Mangarin, the person I job shadowed.
